Plays for Schools [Formerly Dramaworks] offers plays for student performance for schools, youth groups and amateur drama festivals.
Plays for Student Performance
We have a range of plays for every student age group from primary upwards. Most are written either by Jeni or by practising drama teachers.
In 2005 Jeni decided Dramaworks needed plays as well as school drama resources. So she commissioned a number of willing people to write plays suitable for young people. Jeni rejected many and kept the best. Then Jeni signed on with Nielsen, the depository for all published works, who supplied Dramaworks with ISBNs and designated Dramaworks as a publishing house. On that site’s home page these words were always at the forefront: ‘Dramaworks is a small publishing house for plays and teaching resources…’. Many of those plays have been produced in professional theatres to paying audiences, mostly by T.I.E.s and small touring groups.
Other Drama Teaching Resources for Schools
Jeni is also busy producing more Drama Teaching Resources. There’s a Stanislavski resource, written during lock-down, which is more complete and expansive than any previous ones. And the NEW ‘Starter’ series containing information and exercises on a variety of practitioners and styles. They contain enough to give a real flavour of each practitioner or theatre style through practical work.
The plays on this site were once part of Dramaworks. Some other resources are now available from Digital Theatre+.
About Jeni Whittaker
Plays for Schools is run by Jeni Whittaker, who was for many years a teacher, an examiner and a chief examiner of Drama and of Theatre Studies. She also both acted and directed professionally.
This combination of skills and experience has illuminated the resources and made them of particular relevance to the tackling of all present examination syllabuses.
Jeni ran DramaWorks for over 20 years, and her work has become widely known and used throughout schools, colleges and even at University level. She has been an adviser on the setting up of new courses, a university external examiner and has done many inset training days for drama teachers throughout the UK.
